Georgian Downs Run Bad!

Hey everyone!

Today I decided to go try out a tourney at Georgian Downs in Innisfil. The day seemed great to play a tournament. On the way over I was so excited, I couldn't stop thinking about the game play and how it was going to play it out on a electronic poker table.

I arrived super early (5pm) for the tournament that was scheduled for 8pm. I was thinking I need to make sure to get a seat and it's not so bad being there early, there's probably a cash game to play. Well I got there and saw nothing but slot players, the poker tables weren't even open. So I headed over to the cage to ask the cashier about the tournament and why the tables weren't running? she replied "the tables open at 6pm and the tournament was very unlikely to happen. The previous two monday tournaments had been canceled due to lack of interest." At this point I don't think much into it. I proceed to load up card, head over to the registration stand and pre register for the tournament. At this point I decide to go get a bite to eat and kill a bit of time before the tournament starts.

6:30pm - I head back to the Casino after dinner. I walk directly over to the poker area to all of 5 ppl playing 1/2 NL. WTF! So I turn around and see that there is only me and one other on the wait list for the tournament. At this point I'm very disappointed, but still hoping that the tourney will get at least 1 table worth of players. I walk over to the pit boss and ask her about the tournament structure and she says "if we get enough players for the tournament, we will be using the SNG structure." Immediately I question her about the structure because I read that the SNG structure is  3k/15min blinds and the regular tourney is 8k/15min blinds. I really don't ever want to play with a super shallow stack. She responds " I have no idea, we have no access to the website!" Little weird but whatever, I pull it up on my phone and show her the difference. She confirms that it will be the 8k structure. I was still a little skeptical at this point, what if I buyin and they accidentally put in the SNG program, I don't get a refund at that point.

7:15pm - At this point I realize the tournament is going to be canceled! Pfft I just wasted a couple hours waiting for this tournament. I really don't like playing cash games, but I thought this maybe the only action I get tonight. I look over and now there's only 4 players at the the table. WTF that's terrible! I decide I'm not wasting anymore time here, I head home.

On the way out I grab a schedule for their future tournaments and immediately notice another problem with their tournaments. The sheet and the website give two different dates for their tournaments!! One says Sun, Mon and Wed and the other says Sun, Mon and Thurs, also their buyins were different on both. This goes to show us that the OLG has no clue what they're doing when it comes to running a poker room! I think I'll stick to local private games when I play live, atleast until the OLG gets their shit straight! They should hire Steve Kerr of the OPT to re-structure their poker rooms and schedules. My advice to everyone is to call ahead and ask for very specific details before venturing to their tournaments!

Until next time,
Cheers
